Stranger Than Fiction

Will Ferrell is his usual likeable self in this, and I thought Maggie Gyllenhaal was a great pairing for him. I had heard that it wasn't his usual type of comedy, but I was still a little disappointed to find that it wasn't funnier. Emma Thompson did a fine job with a miserable character. I don't think it's even possible for Emma to be stereotyped in a role. She's very unique in every film I see her in. She's so pretty in real life that I'm often amazed at just how bad she can make herself look sometimes!

The whole story was supposed to be about Harold Crick and his wristwatch. Douglas Adams fans might understand why this made me think of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

Made me laugh: Yes.
Made me cry: It tried, and I'm a crybaby, but not quite.
Made me think: Only about what a pain it would be to be audited by the IRS.
Watchability: I can't see myself watching this again, but I'm not sorry I saw it.

Elf

This was a cute movie, and I can't believe it took me so long to watch it. Will Ferrell is very likeable, and Zooey Deschanel has a lovely voice. My favorite scene was the locker room scene where they sing "Baby, It's Cold Outside." Fortunately for me, that very scene is available here on YouTube, which I've grown to love over the past couple of weeks.

Made me laugh: Yes.
Made me cry: No.
Made me think: No.
Watchability: I'd definitely watch it again, but probably not enough to buy the DVD.

Favorite quote:
"Why are you smiling like that?"
"I just like to smile. Smiling's my favorite!"
