Wallace & Gromit in The Curse of the Were-Rabbit

This is a cute movie, and one of the very few that Layth will watch over and over. Most movies have at least one scene that scares him, and that one scene will put him off the entire movie. The alarms that go off in Wallace's house make him a little nervous, but he's slowly getting past that.

We like Nick Park's movies, because Layla used to put on a "Nick Park grin" from time to time for photographs.

Made me laugh: Yes.
Made me cry: No.
Made me think: No.
Watchability: Cute, and worth seeing at least once, especially if you have children to watch it with.
1-10 rating: I would say 7, Layth would say 10.

Favorite quotes:
"Veg bad. Veg bad. Veg bad. Say no to carrots, cabbage and cauliflower."

"Their tiny bunny brains are being saturated in my veg-free mind waves."

V for Vendetta

I enjoyed this movie much more than I thought I would. The only comic books I ever cared about were the Archie comics, and I really didn't care for Sin City when K made me go, so I didn't expect to like this comic book venture, either.

I love Hugo Weaving (V) whether good guy or bad, or whether his face is hidden by a mask or not. Apparently so do the Wachowski brothers, having used him both here and in the Matrix trilogy. I loved the use of the letter "V" throughout the movie. Some uses were obvious, and some were much more subtle, unnoticed until I watched it a second time or slowed things down to watch frame-by-frame to work out clues as to the story's epilogue. The noticing and figuring out of things was the same kind of fun I had with The Usual Suspects.

Made me laugh: Yes.
Made me cry: Just a little teary-eyed.
Made me think: Yes.
Watchability: Very watchable. Hesitant to give the DVD back because I keep thinking about the movie and wanting to see it again.
1-10 rating: 8.5

Favorite quotes:
"VoilĂ ! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of Fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a by-gone vexation, stands vivified, and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin van-guarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition. The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta, held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous. Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose, so let me simply add that it is my very good honor to meet you and you may call me V."

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest

I love it, of course! I loved the first one, I love Johnny Depp, and I especially love his portrayal of Captain Jack Sparrow. The first time I watched it, I started out thinking that the first one was more fun. By the time the movie ended, though, I loved it just as much as the first.

We had a great audience the first time we watched, and a great audience makes a great difference in the enjoyment of the film. They cheered when Captain Jack made his first appearance, laughed aloud in all the right places, clapped when appropriate, and had a very satisfactory and unanimous reaction to the ending, which I won't give away here. The second time we saw it, it was a dead audience, and it detracted from the movie to realize I was the only one laughing and to wonder what was wrong with the audience.

Justin gave away a significant part of the ending to people sitting near us the third time we saw it, but since he didn't quite give it all away, they forgave us and shared the exciting news that Chow Yun-Fat would be making an appearance in the third installment of Pirates, due out next year. Needless to say, I can't wait!

Made me laugh: Yes.
Made me cry: No.
Made me think: No.
Watchability: I see something new each time I watch, and am inevitably told something during or after the viewing that makes me realize I need to watch it again to pick up something I missed.
1-10 rating: 10!

Favorite quotes: My favorites would give too much away! My lips are sealed. Go see it!
